Zirconium silicide (IV) is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula ZrSi2 composed of zirconium and silicon atoms.
Zirconium silicide (Zr3Si2) is a heavy reflective material, particularly suitable for gas-cooled fast reactors (GFR), such as general-purpose atomic energy multiplier modules (EM 2) and fast modular reactors (FMR). In this work, the manufacturability of high-density Zr3Si2 compounds was studied in the Zr 3 Si 2 phase using hot pressing and spark plasma sintering methods. The microstructure, composition and thermal properties of the obtained hot-pressed material were measured, and a relative density of 96% and a phase-pure material of 96% were obtained. The thermal performance is consistent with the thermal performance required for use under GFR operating conditions. In the research reactor, the structure and dimensional stability of the material were also measured before and after neutron irradiation of up to 1017 n/cm2, resulting in an average linear dimensional change of <0.12%. The preliminary irradiation test also confirmed that the Zr3Si2 phase showed no signs of microcracks after irradiation. The results of the irradiation test verify the manufacturing method of Zr3Si2 for nuclear applications, but further irradiation tests are required under high temperature and high irradiation conditions to make the material meet the requirements of GFR applications.
Zirconium disilicide ZrSi2 powder overview
Zirconium disilicide, also known as zirconium silicide, is a gray square crystalline powder. Zirconium silicide is used as the raw material powder for fine ceramics. Zirconium disilicide ZrSi2, molecular weight 147.39, density 4.88, melting point: 1620oC (1790oC), lattice constant: a=0.372nm, b=1.476nm, c=0.367nm. Microhardness (kg/mm2): 1063, heat of formation (kJ/mol): 62.8. Gray square crystalline powder, stable under normal temperature and pressure. Refractory metal silicide. Low resistivity (about 10-7Ω•m), high hardness. The preparation method is mainly to sinter a mixture of deposited metal and silicon. The deposition methods mainly include: evaporation, sputtering, electroplating, chemical vapor deposition, etc.
Application of Zirconium Disilicide ZrSi2 Powder
Zirconium disilicide ZrSi2 powder can be used in cermets, high-temperature oxide coatings, high-temperature structural materials, aerospace and other fields. Used as fine ceramic raw material powder, used in the production of crucibles for manufacturing semiconductor thin films.
It is mostly used in very large scale integrated circuits, such as metal gates, Schottky contacts, and ohmic contacts.
