Product Characteristics and Application of Silicon Nitride Si3N4 Powder

Overview of Silicon Nitride Si3N4 Powder

Silicon nitride Si3N4 Powder is a compound of silicon and nitrogen. Si3N4 is the most thermodynamically stable in silicon nitride. It is a white, high melting solid, relatively chemically inert, attacked by dilute HF and hot H2SO4. It works very hard (MoHS is 8.5) and has high thermal stability.

Silicon nitride is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula Si3N4. It is an important structural ceramic material with high hardness, lubricity and wear resistance, and is an atomic crystal; it is resistant to oxidation at high temperatures. And it resists the effects of cold and cold, heats into the air to 1000°C or more, then cools sharply and then heats, it won't break. It is because of the excellent properties of silicon nitride ceramics that they are often used to manufacture mechanical components such as bearings, air turbine blades, mechanical seals, permanent molds, etc. If silicon nitride ceramics are resistant to high temperature and difficult to transfer, the heat absorption surface of engine components can be improved, which not only has good quality, but also saves fuel and improves thermal efficiency.

Product Characteristics of Silicon Nitride Si3N4 Powder

Low density, high temperature strength, excellent thermal shock resistance, excellent wear resistance, good fracture toughness, mechanical fatigue and creep resistance, good oxidation resistance.

Silicon nitride Si3N4 Powder is difficult to produce as a bulk material – it cannot be heated above 1850°C because it breaks down into silicon and nitrogen, which is well below its melting point. Therefore, the application of traditional hot pressing sintering technology is problematic. Bonding of silicon nitride powders can be achieved at lower temperatures by adding additional materials (sintering aids or "binders") that typically cause some degree of liquid phase sintering. A cleaner alternative is to use spark plasma sintering, where very rapid (several seconds) heating occurs by pulses of electrical current through the compacted powder. Dense silicon nitride compacts were obtained by this technique at temperatures of 1500–1700 °C.
