 What are the properties of gallium oxide

Gallium oxide is white triangular crystal particles, insoluble in water, slightly soluble in hot acid or alkaline solution, and easily soluble in alkali metal hydroxide and dilute inorganic acid.

Gallium (III) oxide, or gallium trioxide, is the most stable gallium oxide. Heating metal gallium in the air to oxidize, or calcining gallium nitrate at 200-250°C, gallium hydroxide and certain gallium compounds can form Ga2O3.

Under heating conditions, Ga2O3 can react with many metal oxides. The crystal structure of gallic acid ester M(I)GaO2 obtained by alkali metal oxide reaction (above 400℃) was determined. Like Al2O3 and Ln2O3, it can be formed by reacting with MgO, ZnO, CoO, NiO and

CuO spinel M(II)Ga2O4.

 Preparation of gallium oxide

1 Add the high-concentration hot aqueous solution of NaHCO3 to the hot aqueous solution of gallium trichloride and GaCl3, and boil until all gallium hydroxide is precipitated. Wash the precipitate with hot water until there is no Cl-, and then calcinate above 600°C to obtain β-Ga2O3. When NH4Cl remains, it will react with Ga2O3 at 250°C to produce volatile GaCl3.

2. This is the preparation method of high-purity gallium oxide. Take high-purity metal Ga as the anode, dissolve it in a 5%-20% H2SO4 solution, add ammonia to the solution, cool and repeat the crystallization of Ga(NH4)(SO4)2, and then dry it at 105°C. Under the condition of excess oxygen, burning at 800°C for 2h can obtain a product with a purity of 99.99% to 99.9999%.

3. Weigh 1kg of 99.9999% high-purity gallium into a three-necked flask, add high-purity nitric acid to dissolve the gallium, then filter, pour the filtrate into the three-necked flask, and transfer to the electric furnace to evaporate (concentrate in a fume hood to When it is close to crystallization, transfer the solution to a large evaporating dish and evaporate to dryness. Put the evaporated Ga(NO3)3 into a muffle furnace to burn. Control the temperature at 550℃ for 5h. After cooling, take out the finished product and get 1.2kg high Pure gallium oxide
