Potassium oleate belongs to the class of organic compounds known as long-chain fatty acids.These are fatty acids with an aliphatic tail that contains between 13 and 21 carbon atoms.Potassium oleate is a weakly acidic compound(based on its pKa).Potassium oleate is a kind of potassium catalyst,which is mainly used for the reaction of polyisohydrourate in polyurethane foam.It can also be used as a rubber emulsifier,foaming agent,release agent, detergent,lubricant, fiber softener and surface active agent.

Potassium Oleate is a natural constituent of vegetable oils like sunflower oil.It is used in soapmaking to make vegetable glycerin soaps.In its pure form,it can be an irritant,however, in soap making it is reduced down and is approved as food safe when it is used as a binding ingredient.

Potassium oleate is a product with high wetting,non-stick and foaming ability,and can be used in industrial fields,such as the manufacture of Marseille soap.It is a surfactant whose main function is to reduce the surface tension of water so that it wets the fabric more thoroughly,thereby helping to wash and remove dirt.Potassium salts of fatty acids are produced by adding potassium hydroxide to fatty acids found in animal fats and in plant oils.Fatty acids are extracted from palm,coconut,olive,castor,and cottonseed plants to form this active ingredient.
